In this section, I am focusing on communication skills that I have built on over time during my college career and work experience. Currently, I work in a small IT team at my employer, so communication is key to our success and staying on top of tasks. Within the classes I have taken, my experience has varied from solo presentations and speeches to teams with up to 6 members on a development project. These classes have also provided me insight on how to follow ‘Clear’, ‘Concise’, ‘Evidence-Driven’, and ‘Professional’ procedures to ensure effective communication regardless of the setting.
Listed below are some examples of my effective communication skills:
- Business Cluster Memo – BUS 301 (Business Communication)
- With this example, I was tasked with writing a memo regarding the assigned business cluster in the Louisville-area. In this case, my cluster was centered on Advanced Manufacturing and the key factors to their success in the city.
- Good News/Bad News Messages – BUS 301 (Business Communication)
- In this document, I was tasked to provide two examples of effective responses (one being positive and the latter negative). The scenario follows: Christy Jarboe from Louisville Forward wants me to provide a business cluster analysis and I have to respond with one accepting the partnership, while the latter rejects it in a non-confrontational way.
- Evidence Driven Report – BUS 301 (Business Communication)
- For this document, I was in a group with 4 other students to create a report regarding advanced manufacturing in Louisville. We worked together to research external factors that were affecting the advanced manufacturing companies in the Louisville area and provide solutions to these challenges.
- Fast Pitch Outline – BUS 301 (Business Communication)
- In this document, I was tasked to summarize my findings for a business cluster in Louisville and a specific challenge the cluster was facing. The intention was to put together a 2-3 minute business presentation and present my ideas in a concise manner.
